What is the Neo Aerolase®?

Neo Aerolase® is a type of erbium laser. This technology is high-powered; these lasers can penetrate deeply into tissues. They can remove the skin’s surface layer, which promotes fresh, unblemished, and healthy skin cells underneath. They also stimulate a healing process. As the energy from the laser is absorbed by the skin cells, heat is produced that promotes collagen remodeling or the production of new collagen. These proteins provide the building blocks for the skin. So, this powerful technology effectively transforms the skin from the inside out and at the cellular level.

How does this laser treat acne specifically?

The Neo treats acne at its source. It heats deeply, shrinking the target sebaceous or oil glands responsible for breakouts. It also constricts associated blood vessels to ease inflammation and redness, effectively soothing irritated skin. Last but not least, the Neo eliminates the propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) or cutibacterium acnes bacteria that also contributes to the development of acne. By destroying the bacteria, we reduce the frequency of breakouts and support long-lasting skin clearance.

How does it compare to other acne treatments?

In the past, options to prevent, treat, and manage acne have been frustratingly limiting. They include topical and systemic medications that carry with them many undesirable side effects. Even if these treatments did work, they often provided symptom relief but failed to achieve lasting skin clearance. The Aerolase® range of lasers is unique, as they target and treat the root causes of acne, providing long-lasting relief and freedom from frequent, painful breakouts. Due to how well we can target acne with this laser, the procedure is safe and preserves healthy skin outside the treatment area. It is generally well-tolerated, with most patients describing the sensation of the Neo by Aerolase® as a fleeting sensation of warmth. Laser treatment is precise and non-invasive, significantly reducing the risk of side effects and complications compared to traditional acne treatments.

Is laser treatment appropriate for every patient with acne?

As with all services at Access Medspa Rejuvenate, Dr. Asongtia Ntonghawah must evaluate your acne, medical history, and other factors before determining if you are a good candidate for the Neo or other alternatives. In general, Aerolase® lasers for acne are appropriate for patients aged between 12 and 50 with mild to moderate acne. Good candidates may also be frustrated by the lack of results from traditional products and treatments in controlling their persistent or recurrent breakouts.

What can I expect after treatment?

Patients who have received treatment with the Neo at our Lanham, Maryland office have seen a remarkable improvement in their skin’s clarity just a few months after the procedure. It has been incredibly fulfilling to help these individuals finally manage their breakouts, especially after years of disappointment with other solutions. They are also able to maintain clear skin over time. It is a privilege to restore both the health of their skin and the joy they experience in life, as acne can significantly affect one’s emotional well-being.
