A guide to understanding the popularity of Botox®; why our skill and expertise matters
For many years, Botox® Cosmetic has been the No. 1 nonsurgical aesthetic treatment. There are several exceptional reasons for this. And, as appealing as this injectable product may be, the fact remains that the results from treatment and your safety and comfort throughout the process depend on the experience and skill of the person injecting it. At Access Medspa Rejuvenate, Dr. Asongtia Ntonghawah and our team in Lanham, Maryland, focus on timeless beauty rather than chasing trends that fade fast. We get natural results that complement the unique beauty of each patient.

Why is Botox® so popular?
In the past, individuals with signs of aging may have been limited to surgical procedures. These procedures may not be suitable for everyone and always involve anesthesia and other risks, as well as downtime and recovery. Botox® is among a big category of nonsurgical cosmetic procedures redefining how we treat wrinkles and other signs of sun damage and aging. It improves the appearance of certain types of lines and creases without surgery or aggressive procedures. It is also a powerful option for individuals who are not ready for aggressive treatments. For instance, Botox® can help patients with more youthful skin keep it that way as a “prejuvenation” service.
How does Botox® keep my skin looking fresh and youthful?
Botox® is a type of treatment commonly known as a “wrinkle relaxer. “These injectable solutions reduce muscle activity, contributing to the formation of frown lines, crow’s feet, and other creases associated with facial expressions. Younger patients may choose Botox® to keep their skin smooth. In less mature skin, there is still sufficient elasticity. So, the skin resumes its natural shape after it is stretched when expressing yourself with your face. With these patients, any wrinkling is only present when squinting, frowning, or otherwise moving the face. These lines and wrinkles are fleeting or dynamic. With Botox® as a preventative treatment, we can delay the onset of static wrinkles.
What do you mean by static wrinkles?
Static lines differ from dynamic ones because they are visible even when your face is at rest. Static lines develop due to repeated contractions of the facial muscles. As the skin loses its elasticity and firmness, it does not return to its original shape. The skin remains creased and is no longer smooth. Botox® is designed to improve the appearance of these set-in lines among older patients, too. By disrupting the process that leads to muscle contractions, the skin above remains taut. You notice an improvement in the appearance of wispy lines around the eyes, vertical furrows between the eyebrows, and horizontal wrinkles on the forehead. With repeated use over time, we may “retrain” your muscles, potentially reducing the activity that leads to the development or worsening of wrinkles.
Is Botox® just for the areas mentioned above?
While Botox® is perhaps best known and FDA-approved for use on frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines, Dr. Ntonghawah and our team have the experience and skills to provide both nonsurgical “brow lift” and “lip flip” treatments. By relaxing the depressor muscles that pull the brows downward, we can subtly lift the position of the eyebrows. This can transform the look of your whole face and even help with hooding around the eyes. Botox® can also be injected into the lower face to enhance the lips. By relaxing specific muscles around the mouth, Botox® can be applied to create the illusion of fuller lips. This application gets its name from how the lip naturally flips upward, which reduces the space between the nose and lips. The lips look bigger, and we also balance your facial features to support a more attractive appearance.
Will I need lots of maintenance treatments?
By following the instructions for both pre-treatment and post-treatment care, the results of Botox® can last for several months. At Access Medspa Rejuvenate, we will discuss various factors that can influence the longevity of Botox® results. These factors include the specific muscles that are injected. For example, Botox® injected into areas with heavy muscle activity, such as the lips, may wear off more quickly than Botox® injected into areas with less muscle movement and thicker skin, like the forehead. Regardless of the injection site, we will customize your treatment to meet your needs while adhering to the highest quality and safety standards.
