What is Restylane®?

Restylane® is not any one type of product, but it is a collection of dermal fillers. Also known as soft tissue fillers, these injectable cosmetic products are designed to plump up and lift sunken and saggy skin. They also work wonders on other depressions in the skin, such as scars from past acne breakouts or injuries. Each filler product or “family” of fillers varies in the ingredients used and how they are manufactured. This makes some products better at treating certain areas of the face or conditions than others. Likewise, some fillers may last longer than others and are associated with different side effects.

What is Restylane® made out of?

Restylane® is made with one of the most popular ingredients for dermal filler treatments: Hyaluronic acid. This molecule is produced by our bodies naturally, and it helps to lubricate parts of the eyes and joints and to keep the skin moisturized. Hyaluronic acid (HA) has unique properties that allow it to bind to water molecules in the skin when injected into specific areas of the face. This action adds volume and support to the areas that need it most, such as the hollows of the cheeks and the troughs beneath the eyes.

If Restylane® is right for me, what are my options?

The Restylane® Collection includes classic Restylane® as well as its sister products—Refyne, Defyne, Silk, and Lyft. While still made with HA, each product is formulated slightly differently. With these options, Restylane® can be used to treat different parts of the face, individuals with more subtle needs for rejuvenation, and those with much more severe wrinkling.

What parts of the face can be treated?

Restylane® may be a great choice for folds and lines around the nose and lips and at the corners of the mouth. Lyft is specifically designed for sunken or hollowed-out cheeks and can also be used on bony or crepey hands. Silk is uniquely engineered to subtly redefine the lips and soften the wrinkles around your mouth. Refyne and Defyne can be applied to address nasolabial folds around the nose and mouth, as well as the marionette lines extending downward from the mouth’s corners.

What product is best for deeper wrinkles?

Restylane® Lyft is made with larger molecules. So, it is meant to be injected deeply into the skin. Restylane® Defyne offers excellent support for severely wrinkled nasolabial folds and cheeks, which can experience significant volume loss over time. While it is designed to be less flexible than its counterpart, Restylane® Refyne, Defyne provides greater support for lifting deeper wrinkles.

What are the benefits of Restylane® fillers?

There are several! Since HA is a naturally occurring substance, the risks of adverse reactions or side effects are minimal. Many Restylane® products are also made with lidocaine, so comfortable treatment is supported. Injections can be completed quickly, in 15 to 60 minutes, and little to no downtime is needed. Our patients at Access Medspa Rejuvenate love that it’s an instant gratification process. Immediate improvements can be seen in the face’s smoothness, contours, and balance. The results can last up to two years, depending on the product used and other factors, such as the injection site.
