What is the Spectra Carbon Laser?

The Spectra Carbon Laser (also known as the Hollywood Carbon Peel) is a unique laser treatment that is used for a variety of skin irregularities. The laser treatment can reduce the appearance of fine lines, help repair sun damage, scars, improve skin tone, even out skin tones, and can help treat enlarged pores and acne. It is a gentle treatment that gives improved skin tone, leaving the skin smooth and looking younger.

How does the Spectra Carbon Laser work?

The Hollywood peel works using laser energy with a special Spectra lotion to heat the skin and remove the layer of dead skin on the top.  There are three basic components to this treatment:

1. A black carbon mask is applied to the skin.
2. Laser energy heats the carbon, which penetrates the skin.
3. Another laser setting is applied to explode the carbon particles which exfoliates the skin.

The laser energy targets the melanin in the skin cells and breaks it up. When the melanin is broken down, the body removes it, leaving behind brighter-looking skin. As the laser energy heats the skin, the skin will contract and stimulate collagen production. This improves skin tone and reduces wrinkles and lines.

How long does a typical procedure take?

During the session, a thin layer of Spectra lotion will be applied to the area being treated. Next, the laser will be applied to the skin. Patients will hear snapping sounds during this part of the procedure as the laser warms the Spectra lotion. The procedure can take less than an hour. Once it is done, you can go about your normal daily activities. No time is needed for recovery.

What results can I expect?

After the carbon laser treatment, you can expect to see younger-looking skin, better skin tone, a reduction in the look of lines and scars, reduced size of pores, and a reduction in the appearance of dark patches. Some results will be noticeable immediately after the treatment, but more significant results will become more visible in about one to four weeks after the treatment. Sometimes, additional treatments will increase the results.
